Georgetown Univ: Right-wing extremism bigger problem than Islamic extremism

I knew SPLC and USMA/CTC were hard over leftists on "extremist right-wing groups". This article puts Georgetown University solidly in that group too.

See the full article here: http://georgetownsecuritystudiesrevi....-4-Iss.-2.pdf

    Pg 44 - Abstract:

ASSESSING AND PRIORITIZING DOMESTIC TERRORISM THREATS:
THE CASE FOR FOCUSING ON RIGHT-WING EXTREMISM
    Colette Clark
As Islamic extremism dominates the headlines, America is grappling with a right-wing
extremism problem of considerably greater magnitude and impact. This paper presents a
background on the right-wing extremist violence and the propaganda that undergirds the spread
of related ideologies. After exploring the similarities between right-wing extremist and Russian
propaganda techniques, and the hindrances to policy action presented by media narratives and
2016 presidential election rhetoric, the paper outlines four policy proposals for combating the
propaganda and recruitment of right-wing extremist groups and for reorienting US
counterterrorism to focus on the greater domestic threat.

Maybe you should read the paper before posting...

This is the viewpoint from a single student, thus does not reflect the viewpoint of the university, as a whole. If you knew anything about the Security Studies program(s), you would understand where I'm coming from.

Georgetown University Security Studies Program link: http://css.georgetown.edu/ssp
"Georgetown University’s Security Studies Program (SSP) is the academic pillar of the Center for Security Studies (CSS) and one of eight master’s degree programs offered in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS)."
This wasn't a paper handed in for a class. It was a research paper published in the SSP's journal. That has to say something about the SSP's position on the topic.

As to The Countering Terrorism Center at USMA, one paper from one prof does not a position make. Vs the dozens from CTC about radical Islam, many of which were some of the first studies of that kind.

Even that paper made no reference to right wing terror being greater than Islamic terror, just that violence from right wing groups is rising. Which they do present evidence backing that up.

CTC is not universally loved by USMA grads. It's hosted, but not funded, by USMA. It is, however, one of the definitive sources on Islamic terror. But their scope is not limited to that, nor should it be.

You're correct about the vast majority of the CTC faculty and staff. My sincere apologies to them and thanks for the quality research they contribute to the knowledge base concerning Islamic terror. My words were poorly chosen to include them in the same breath as the SPLC.

Pulling one page out of a 160 page document, doesn't necessarily reflect the gist of the doc. The DoJ's Bureau of Justice Assistance and SLATT program have been pushing the domestic right wing terrorism threat as a primary focal point for several years. Polling CLEO's on what they think are the primary threats, isn't a scientific method of assessment. In many locations and specific venues, the actual threat of Islamic terrorism is extremely low. The issue is the unpredictable nature of radicalized Islamist elements in our society. Of course NY, Boston, etc. are prime targets, but who expects an Islamist to behead a coworker in a food processing plant in Oklahoma City? Statistically speaking, the death toll in OKC is significantly higher from right wing extremism than Islamic extremism. In NYC, it's the opposite. Spectacular single attacks have a way of skewing statistics thusly.

The best approach is NOT to take a national study and apply it on a local level. The best approach is to forge robust partnerships with local, state and federal agencies on the local level, along with private industry and community partners who provide valuable local intel on the issues that each individual community faces. That's what the Urban Area Security Initiative was all about. It may have been defunded by DHS, but many communities have carried it forward on their own dime and initiatives. Ours has and I'd say it's a good thing.
What if this whole crusade's a charade?
And behind it all there's a price to be paid
For the blood which we dine
Justified in the name of the holy and the divine…

    Non-issue.

For leftists hell bent on destroying the Constitution, Right Wing Extremism is absolutely a bigger threat than Radical Islam.
Why do the loudest do the least?
