I'm currently shooting a 3/8" ar500 plate hanging on chains at 700-800yds with 77gr. Hits are hard to hear, but I can almost hear all of them. I always wondered if a 1/4" plate would ring louder.

Where do you find large square targets? I have the same issue with the green vegetation. All the target places I know of don't sell the large square targets.

Try using some trampoline springs for hanging your steel. It supposedly makes the hits ring loud.

What do you hang the springs from?

The same stand used with chains, just replacing the 2 chains with 2 springs.

There are several options out there to hang steel, some people fabricate stands out of rebar. I have a stand that uses some fence pipe and fittings from farmtek. There is a commercially available stand on amazon that uses 2 metal sets of legs and a 2x4 as a cross piece.
