I am curious how much various imperfections in a bore matter. I used to think they mattered quite a bit, but now, I am not so sure, outside of the realm of actual bench-guns. I hope that you will chronicle the accuracy and erosion of these two barrels over time, regardless of some in the peanut gallery, Molon. For that matter, is it possible to source a barrel of identical profile from both companies? I realize that this likely means getting a more "whippy" Kreiger, but I think it would be a very interesting study.

    Thank you.

I took the barrel picture with 100 rds through it as an example, not as PROOF of what a new barrel looks like. Criminy.

    Molon, thanks for your post.

Molon, first off, thank you. I'm a technical geek, and stuff like this is very interesting to me. Can you speculate how much this affects accuracy? I'm currently shooting mostly BCM stainless 1/8 twist barrels. I have a 16" in a Recce, and an 18" in a SPR. Also have a DD MK18, and an Archer Manufacuring DMR that is built with a Criterion barrel.

My question is, would you care to speculate, based on your experience, what the accuracy differences would be? I know Kreigers are the yardstick if you will of accuracy, but am not familiar with how a BA barrel would shoot.

Thanks for your time, and willingness to post this info.

So there are tooling marks in the BA barrel. They look uniform to me and the land & grooves look uniform as well. No real "defects". If the pictures you showed are as bad as it gets, I'll bet it shoots pretty darn good. Maybe not Krieger good, but I'll bet under 1 MOA for at least 5 shots, maybe even 10 depending upon the contour.

Thanks for the pics Molon. So often, barrels are a pig-in-a-poke.

Molon, thanks for another cool post.

I have never seen pictures like this so it's very interesting to me.

It's sad to see TOS like posts in this thread and unfortunate the mods don't police them more severely.

Please ignore the ****tards and keeps posting here. Many of us really appreciate it.

Thanks for the pictures Molon. Did you scope your Lothar Walther barrel? How did it compare to both the kreiger and ba barrels? Would be interesting to see how a higher grade unlapped button rifled barrel looked through the bore scope.

One more: Thank you, Molon. It's posts like this that keep me coming back to M4C.

But I also want to know how they shoot.

And Molon, when you start name-calling, the trolls win.

Molon, thank you for posting the good info that you do in this thread and so many others. I wish I had time to do the testing/shooting and contributing to this community that you do. Since many of us can't, thank you for taking the time.
