I haven't shot mine too much yet. Just enough to zero in the red dot I put on...but yes, the barrel is quite beefy.

I also own an AR-556. Compared to the Sport 2, IMO, the AR-556 QC is much better than the Sport 2's QC.

I might pick up another AR-556 just for this reason alone.

Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

Given Ruger's previous support for various "assault weapon" bans, and magazine restrictions I would feel more comfortable giving my money to companies that been consistent supporters of the 2nd amendment and produce a better product. There are plenty to choose from.

That was Bill Ruger...who has been dead for what? 15 years now? Besides, if we want to open that can of worms, we probably shouldn't forget about former Colt CEO Ron Stewart resigning for the bullshit he said way back when....Or S&W getting into bed with Bill Clinton and the whole gun lock thing...How about maybe Glock wanting access to 4473's? That would be fun.

Jewell, very good points made there!
Some people should do a bit of research before trash talking others! Karma is a...........well, you know.

Your info is very, very dated. Ruger is one of if not the largest industry supporter of our gun rights. They give millions to the NRA/ILA fairly often and offer a huge number of great products for every kind of gun enthusiast/user.

They currently donate $2 per firearm sold to the NRA alone. Given that they've recently become more competitive in the AR and combat/duty pistol arena, I doubt they back any further weapon bans.

Any update on the bolt carrier?
