The socom cans are indexed (unlike AAC and some others) and muzzle devices should be timed, for a proper install. Performance will not suffer with YOUR EXACT MD, but it's just shoddy/lazy, IMO.

Does the indexing matter if using the 4 prong, open ended style hider/mount though? I mean, is the "tab" inside the supressor need to facing downward? I have no issue ensuring its timed correctly. last thing I want to be thought of is shoddy and lazy!

Well, gas escapes past that notch (a small amount). Theoretically I guess I'd rather vent gas down, then into my sight-line. Mainly though, it's just shoddy not to do something correctly. I don't like shoddy. YMMV.

Good point regarding the gas escaping. Good reason to ensure its timed.

I agree with this, also, since I run both SureFire MB and FH's, I like for my locking rings to all end up in the same place, if not, the ring would lock in different locations, which would piss me off.

"I have a non-purchaseable mount and a $1200 can...does it matter if I mount it all shoddy however?"

    Grates on me.

Do you advocate mounting the flash hider with the "Surefire" wording at 12 o'clock or with the tines at 12,3,6 and 9?
Slot for the suppressor mount is cut into the tines.

Like I said, this is my first go with a can, so I'm definitely at the early learning stage...

I advocate mounting it correctly. The index tab is to be oriented per manual instructions. The wording on the mount is what it is.

Many thanks to WS6 and firefighter37. Test went well. 50 rds with no issues. 20 GECO .223 and 30 Federal XM193 5.56. Smoke wasn't nearly as bad as I expected it to be. Rifle cylced fine. A slight POI shift to the right at 75'. I'll have to recheck zero without supressor, then diagnose.

After 50 rds, there is an impressive amount of carbon infused on the flash hider!

All of my suppressor mounts end up looking like something dug out of the remains of a campfire. I think someone brought up the clean and apply fire clean option as a preventative. Best thing I have found is giving them a thorough cleaning then heating up said mounts in the oven and soaking in silicone oil (dot 5 brake fluid). It has greatly helped with general cleaning after long days at the range.
