Here's a variation on the question. How do you remove a castle nut that has been secured with Blue LocTite ? I understand you apply heat to the nut, but how much heat and with what implement? Is a standard shop heat gun sufficient? A butane torch seems to be a bit much, but is it? You get my drift, I don't want to cook anything here or ruin a finish unnecessarily. Thanks for the help.
Not sure about the heat question so I'll defer to those with more experience. however, I can attest to the need for a wrench with 2 or more teeth to spread the torque load. I tried to use a DPMS armorer wrench to remove a castle nut and damned near destroyed it. Concentrating a lot of torque on just one spot on the castle nut resulted in a pretty nasty gouge and no movement of the nut. A 3 point wrench I got from Rainier saved the day.
The DPMS is fine for putting the nut on, but I'd recommend against using it for removal.
Lots of heat via a heat gun, and a good wrench like my TCU wrench or a Specialized Armament wrench. If you have a lesser wrench you could remove the stock body, install the receiver extension in a padded vice and turn the nut to keep from turning the tube within the receiver (also use a lot of heat). Or cut off the castle nut very carefully with a Dremel.

Blue Loc-tite should break loose fairly easy with some heat applied. The ones I have here where some asshole put red Loc-tite on them were very difficult. I had to actually cut a few off the castle nuts off. Use a good wrench, apply the heat and then quickly make the break and it should be GTG.
