.308 gel test: Tula 165 gr soft point

    https://youtu.be/_oHNnDD-aUw

.308 Win Tula 165 gr soft point fired from 22" Springfield M1A into calibrated 10% ordnance gelatin. I was very surprised by the performance here. What do you think? Would you trust this ammo for defense? Hunting? At 10$ for a box of 20, where does this fit in?

    Impact velocity: 2,418 fps
    Penetration: 16.5"
    Retained weight: 150.8 gr
    Max expansion: 0.712"
    Min expansion: 0.533"

Adequate for deer sized animals given proper placement. It would not be a first choice for defense or hunting. Good enough for plinking and practice especially at the price point.

    How accurate is it?

Performance looks good to me. Especially at the price point. Obviously it's not "barrier blind" ammo, but it isn't designed to be.

I might do a barrier test just for grits and shins. It honestly might do pretty well. Probably better than an A-MAX, just because it has a sturdier jacket and it's a soft point.

Wow! I didn't expect this from Russian SP ammo. Great performance. I wouldn't have been surprised to see jacket separation and extreme weight loss - like most Russian SP or HP ammo.

Good test and a good find for all us 308 shooters. Thank you.

Thank you. Maybe I can do a barrier test some day. If I'm not too lazy.
