I think you are referring to the one with an ACOG and the original Daniel Defense lite rail. IIRC some had Compass Lake or Douglas barrels and KAC triggers. I think some may have even been built on commercial lowers if only for the course itself.
Quite a while ago, For the record, I am not military. But I was acquainted with a fellow from AMU who taught/assisted with training. From my understanding this was when the Army had essentially gone M4s for everybody as opposed to A4s.
I dont know performance but I believe it wasnt long lived and they did the M14 EBR deal.
Like...12-13 years ago.
I too would love to hear first hand accounts of any who used one aside from a guy over a decade ago telling me about these shit hot M16s over Burger King. I sorta miss the Glock matches at Ft. Benning. I should update my GSSF. I ran across a bunch of guys still active duty who went on to be names for a lot of these gun companies. Wasn't like big buddies with them but they were professional and friendly.
I keep hearing the A4 was used termporarily before the SDM-R (the one your referencing) became standard, is it true?
Also thank you for your response and your service

Never seen or heard of a SDM rifle outside of the 3rd ID builds in 2004. My last unit had M14s for the guys who passed the course up until a couple years ago, been out a few years and don't know if they replaced them with anything other than a M16A4 and ACOG. Heres the one I built way back, use it for prairie dogs and coyotes now.

Thats a pretty rifle. Do they even make that rail anymore? I know they dont but just saying.
I dont think anyone really makes a rail like that anymore, unless its to fill old contracts. Im anxious to see what replaces the block 2 for the SOPMOD program, if anything.
if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay? How close is the Larue rail?
