    Barrel input needed

I'm currently trying to decide between 10.5 or 11.5" CHF barrels for my pistol build (which may eventually be an SBR, not sure yet). It may be suppressed in the future, but not soon, as obviously even if I picked and purchased a suppressor today, it looks like it's taking anywhere from 9-15 months to go through approval. As such, I'll probably use a KX5 on whichever I choose for the time being, as I don't even plan to pull the trigger on a suppressor until early next year.

That said, I've been reading people saying there's no reason to go with something like Noveske CHF when you can get the BCM for less. Maybe that was true at one point, but Noveske's own website shows their 10.5" with gas block already pinned and ready to go for $350. The 11.5" BCM BFH STRIPPED is $310, so I'd probably be looking at $410 once a block is purchased and pinned. The DD 11.5" with pinned LPGB is $330, so why so much for the BCM? I haven't seen any DD 11.5s with pinned GB in stock anywhere, but HAVE found the stripped barrel for $289. So, is there something that I don't know that makes the BCM worth $20 over a DD? I've never seen anyone state a BCM barrel was more accurate than a DD. Would anyone expect the Noveske 10.5" to be more or less accurate than a 11.5" DD or BCM? (I ask because I remember reading posts in the past where people claimed their 10.5" Noveske was the most accurate AR they have ever owned, but I would imagine that was back when John was still around)

I'm also considering the Triarc Systems 10.5" TRACK barrel, since that type of rifling supposedly picks up a little velocity.

11.5" barrels are more reliable than their shorter cousins. That 1" of length makes a significant difference in dwell time which translates to more reliable performance. As for the price discrepancies between brands I couldn't tell you. I will ask this, does $20 make that much of a difference? I would go with whatever is available.

Thanks for the reply. No, $20 doesn't make a difference, I just would have assumed the difference would have been the other way around with DD being the more expensive of the two, knowing the reputation of DD. That was also part of my reason for wondering if there was something new about these BCM barrels that I didn't know. I've never seen a BCM barrel being touted as even AS accurate as a Noveske or DD. I've seen that they are close and that their accuracy is acceptable, but that Noveske and DD seem to be accepted as the most accurate as far as CHF barrels go. But again, from DD, their 11.5 with their LPGB is $330. So I'm probably looking at a $80 difference between BCM and DD if I chose to wait on those to be back in stock.

The Noveske barrels I have measured (port size) have been ginormous. Adding the KX5 isn't going to help it. I would stick with an 11.5" barrel.

There are other options than just Noveske and BCM. I have over a dozen AR's with CHF and standard barrels I cannot see any tangible difference. In addition there is no need to have a gas block pinned. I have over 40K aggregate rounds through multiple configs and have yet have a gas block loosen that was CORRECTLY installed.

Yes I do. There is no need for a port that size.

Makes sense. I've never installed a gas block before, so I'm not exactly sure what "correctly" means, haha. Feel free to shoot me a PM with gas block recommendations and install tips. Maybe the DD 11.5" is the way to go after all if I don't need to pin a GB.
