Shibata Ka- Gendaito. Highly regarded Gendai (modern era, ca 1930) smith.
29" C.E., long for a katana. Has old Edo period iron/gilt fuchi/gashira (fittings).

Google “AOI Art” to glimpse an incredible number of authentic Nihonto- many are museum quality with kantiesho/origami- provenance.
Kazushige Tsuruta (Tsurata san-owner) is helpful in answering questions, in painfully broken English (which is much better than my Japanese).

Ah, but a sensei only selects students who are worthy of enlightenment.

I have some Japanese blades coming to me soon. I'll send you some pics when they arrive. They are a gift from an old friend.

    Lucky you.

I’ll look forward to photos. Remove the tsuka (grip) and shoot the mei, any kanji.
    That’s always an interesting puzzle.
