So, for my 9mm AR SBR, how much bigger does the handguard inside diameter have to be than the suppressor? You think a 1.6" inside D handguard will allow a 1.5" can in it and function properly?
thanks,
scott

If the outside diameter of the suppressor is smaller than the inside diameter of the handgaurd it will function properly, however there are a couple things to look out for. One is to make sure if you have a quick detach suppressor or other mechanical latching system that it doesn't protrude farther than the outside diameter of the suppressor. If it does, take that into your calculation when selecting a handguard. The other thing to keep in mind is that when the rifle is fired, there is always a small amount of barrel whip (harmonics) so the barrel will flex a tiny bit and you don't want the suppressor to touch the handguard when the barrel flexes because it will throw off the natural harmonics and negatively effect your accuracy. But, I think you will be fine with a 1.5" suppressor inside a 1.6" inside diameter handguard. I have an OSS Gen V suppressor (which has a 1.75" outside diameter) inside a 1.8" inside diameter Aero Precision handguard and I haven't had any issues with it.

Thanks, yes, I have a Griffin Armament rev 9, and i can direct thread it, as well as tri lug, and the tri lug doesn't add anything to the diameter. Exactly, I'm thinking the barrel flex will be minimal on a 6" 9mm barrel. If it isn't enough clearance, I can stick the handguard on my 22 SBR
Is your OSS a rifle cal suppressor?
thanks,
scott
Those OSS cans look pretty sweet as well, interesting design. I was just checking out my dad's 16" BCM 300 BLK with a Griffin Armament recce 7. so quiet, it's laughable. Do you use the full length oss? If I remember correctly, you can add another module to lengthen those. I'm sure it's stupid quiet with almost zero blowback. I'm looking forward to a 300 BLK sbr.

The OSS suppressor is a two piece design. So you can run it with just the Back Pressure Regulator (BPR) or you can add the Signature Reduction Module (SRM). I like running just the BPR because it only adds about 2 inches to the barrel length and is still very quiet with 300 Blackout, even with supersonic loads. There is zero gas blowback and I love that. Unfortunately, I can not recommend OSS suppressors because they have a plethora of issues. I had a Gen IV model originally and despite claims of a "self-tightening design" it most certainly was not. It kept coming loose on my Scar 17. I sent it in for repair and it came back with the same problem. So I sent it in again months later and they didn't have any spare Gen IV parts so they upgraded me to the Gen V (which was cool). The BPR on my Gen V locked up on the Flash Hider Muzzle Break and when I went to take it off it was so stuck that it broke the loctite securing the FHMB to the barrel. So long story longer, I finally ended up getting the two parts unstuck and sent in for repair. They are currently in the mail to OSS. And OSS customer service is pretty bad. Every time I've dealt with them for sending the suppressor back for repair they have been very slow to respond, sometimes taking 3 weeks to finally get me a Return Merchandise Authorization. So with the Gen V being the most expensive suppressors on the market at over $2,000 I can not in good conscience recommend them. However, on a positive note, when are working properly they are badass.

Thanks, I'm super happy with the way it turned out. Can't wait to try her out.
Yes, the past year I've been reading as much as I could about suppressors, and have more than a few, so I have hands on a few brands, but not OSS. I've read some not so good things about OSS but never used them, so I can't talk first hand experience. I'm pretty happy I didn't go that direction.
