Ok so...hot suppressor added to cold mount + pew pew pew = problem solved! (Right?)

So I mount suppressor. Shoot a bunch, which creates heat that expands the thread. Remove suppressor and mount on cold mount which shrinks the thread. Shoot suppressor more, reheating the suppressor and expanding thread... And it still gets stuck? I can see the science and reasoning behind the whole heat/cold expansion/contraction, but I'm still on the same page as ironman8

I'm going to bump this for my own question.

To all of those who are recommending dedicated caliber cans, I want to ask. Since the 5.56 can only really be taken to hearing safe, why not put on a 30 caliber can? Would any decibel loss (gain) really be noticed over the supersonic crack?

Would it be as noticeable as firing a subsonic 9mm through a .45 can?

Is it the size difference? I was noticing in the case of the Surefire Socoms the 300SPS is almost 2" longer and 3oz heavier. Does it make enough of a difference in handling?

As a guy who is still waiting on his first can, I can see how a 30 caliber can could be tempting.

I know it will cause damage over time, but I just got my Recce 7 and shot it yesterday on a 10.5 556 upper and felt no discomfort at all. Very pleased with it. Can't wait to try out my 300 subs and 308.

Simply put, length & weight. Every Oz & fraction of an inch makes a difference. .30 cal cans tend to be very large, if you go the .30 cal route I'd get something like the Rugged Razor. Forget the Db chasing nonsense, length, weight, mount, durability, flash suppression are all more important than the overall Db reduction.

My saker 762 is super quiet other than the crack but damn is it long and heavy. Def regret not getting 556.
