7.62 Silencer questions (running it on a 5.56 possible benefits)

If I were to run a 7.62 Silencer on one of my 5.56 rifles, is there going to be less gas in face and fouling?

I am wondering if the bigger 7.62 hole will port the gasses forward a little better.

I understand they are going a 7.62 on a 5.56 barrel will be louder by a few decibels, longer and heavier, but for the sake of interchangeability to my 7.62 maybe it would be better to get the 7.62? I already have a YHM Stainless qd 5.56 I bought a few years ago but was thinking of trying another, but thought I might just go with the 7.62 this time.

While a 7.62 can on a 5.56 may be a little louder, it won't be by much. It will not be noticeable to the ear. I first got a 7.62 can for my 5.56 ARs, but that got old quick, and ended up just getting dedicated cans. Look at your uses, if its primarily going to be used on 5.56, get a 5.56 can.

I'm looking at a Omega for this reason because I'm a lefty and I might end up with a MDR bullpup. This would be my first can btw.

This is a single sample, but my saker 7.62 has a fair bit less back pressure than my specwar 556k on my 11.5 and 10.5 hosts. And this is despite the much larger volume of the saker.

On longer barrels it's not as noticeable to me.

A .308 can will have less gas blowback than a .223 can, when used on .223 caliber firearms, due to the oversized bore.

Assuming the same design, a full-sized .308 can will generally provide more sound attenuation than a full-sized .223 can, as it has more usable volume, despite the larger bore. A mini .308 can will have less sound attenuation as full-sized .223 can that is the same size, as the larger bore means it has less usable volume. This can be best illustrated by the Surefire cans; in order of greatest sound attenuation to least sound attenuation: SOCOM762-RC2, SOCOM556-RC2, SOCOM762-MINI.

    I run a 7.62 can on a 5.56 rifle very often, it's a great improvement.

Also note, that the SOCOM762-MINI and the SOCOM556-RC(2) are the same size.

The Silencer Co Saker 7.62 has interchangeable front caps to reduce the size of the muzzle to 5.56 diameter giving you a quieter can as well. The size of the can also lends to reduced back pressure.

I purposely bought an Omega for primary use on 5.56 and I'm very happy with it. Sounds better and no blow back..I run mine with the 5.56 endcap

    My SDN-6 seems quieter than my M4-2000 on a 5.56 10.5" SBR. It's also bigger/heavier.

I guess my position is that if you're going to have only one can, you'd at least like it to be quiet on something. The .30 can allows one to invest in a 300 BLK and have a truly quiet system. A dedicated 5.56 can won't get you that. So go ahead an get a .30 can and just realize that you'll, for whatever reason, get a dedicated 5.56 can later. It just happens.
