How do you like the light on the 7" handguards so far? I found, on my SBR pictured above, that it put the light too far to the rear. On the SBR I wound up moving it out to the FSB on an MI mount. I'm thinking of trying it again on my new BCM midlength though.

13lbs and change loaded. Horrible. I had a HB on there - and re profiled it.
It is now manageable. Must be near 10 though with can.

The weight with can is one of the reasons I am moving into a SBR - so I can stay at about 16 in overall, keep the weight down and still not deafen myself if it is ever fired in an enclosed space.

My favorite rifle right now comes in at just over 6 lbs.

rob_s, I like it so far.

I think mine is mounted a little bit further forward than yours was (not evident in the pic, but I placed the forward screw hole for the pic rail at the very edge of the handguard, so the end of the pic rail and the light hangs over just slightly). I used a few heavy rubberbands to 'pre-mount' the light & pic rail - and it allowed me to get a feel for what spot was the best, based on how I hold the handguard.

When I need to activate the momentary button my hand is a little further back on the handguard than I'm used to. When the light is not in use my thumb just rides right below it at ~0900 and there's no issue.

I think mounting it as far forward as you can on a middy handguard would be just right.

Sweet. That little "Umbrella" logo is cool, did you do that yourself? Decal or paint?

For me, if I can keep my total weapon weight (fully loaded, with sling and optics if needed) under 10 lbs., I am extremely happy. I'm used to lugging around a 15 lb. .308 bolt rifle with a 26" heavy barrel, so to me, switching to this little S&W M&P15T makes all the difference in the world, even if it's not a lightweight. With my 4x ACOG, 30rd Pmag, and single point sling, I think it's tipping the scales around 9.5lbs, last time I checked.

Its a decal I found online about a year or two ago - I forget where. I just put it there for giggles. And my lower safe semi paint is for when I take virgin shooters out so I can see that they are safe/hot. I really want to get a collapsible stock on that 5.45 rifle, as that would make it about perfect and cut alittle more weight.

Settled on a couple things after checking some weights.

A t-1 in an LT mount will save you about 4 oz. +/- vs. a fullsize (C3/M3, etc.) in an LT mount.

A Troy sight will save you 1 oz. vs. an LT fixed BUIS.

Based on that, and with a few other considerations thrown in, I came up with these two last night.

Yes, I know that the BCM is lacking a light, so the two above aren't apples:apples, but I'm still happy with the relative setups in initial feel.

    rob_s,

can you confirm the weight of the Magpul stock? I read somewhere that it's ~12oz. Is it really that much heavier than a Colt M4 stock (~6.6oz), or fiberlite stock (~4.6oz)?

Haven't weighed the CTR yet. This is the MOE.

Colt M4 stock (not a totally fair comparison as the MOE includes a pad)
