    SilencerCo Osprey 9 Vs AAC Ti-Rant 9M

Trying to decide which to choose for my first 9mm suppressor. I like the design of the Osprey and its shorter overall length, but there is only 2 millimeters of space between the top of my flashlight and the bottom of the suppressor when I have it mounted on my Beretta. Another positive attribute of the Osprey is that my sights clear it with ease.

The Ti-rant is an inch longer but has the advantage of being modular and being able to be shortened down to 5.84 inches with a substantial drop in Db reduction. I would need to replace the sights in order to clear the top of the can (not a requirement). Price with military discount is almost the same for either suppressor so that isn't a factor. The suppressor would be shot exclusively with jacketed ammunition (primarily 147gr).

What is your intended purpose? HD? Fun?

The ospray has signification frp and is not user servicable. Does that matter to you? What is the db difference of the short and long Tirant?

You may want to look at the griffin 9mm cans.I have a revolution, but they have a non-convertible short version for cheaper iirc.

The short version is still very quiet with little frp.

Edit, the rev9 is less than 3oz heavier, almost the same length, and much quieter than the short ti-rant M.

The primary purpose is home defense with some target shooting thrown in. User serviceability is not a priority, but overall size and sound reduction are. The difference between the Ti-rant in full size and shortened is 9 Dbs.

See edit above. I'd absolutely go with the Rev 9 in k config ( it's what I did). The full sized seemed louder to the shooter than the k for me (rev9).

I have no experience with the aac cans, but comparing numbers, I wouldn't go for aac. Silencer shop has good vids out with numbers, don't know if they tested the ti-rant M yet.

I would think about the Omega k with FA ratings too. Lightweight versatile can if you go 45k you can also 3 lug it if needed to lock it better. Just thinking out loud

All of the videos I have seen metering the Omega 9K have shown it to be substantially louder than the Osprey and Ti-Rant, is that not the case?

i have the original TiRant 9. There isnt a can out there today that I would trade it for, I would only upgrade to the TiRant 9M for the modularity.

Osprey 45 definitely has a significant FRP, the Osprey 9 doesn't have a significant FRP and user serviceable is irrelevant unless you're shooting cheap unplatted reloads or something. Osprey allows better use of your sights and is damn quiet.

SiCo claims Osprey 127 db Omega 9k 131.5 and AAC Tirant 9m claims 33db reduction so I would say it's around 130-132db. What's more important to you or personal preference I guess. I went with Tirant 9S for the weight and sacrificed some db for it. I wish the Tirant 9m or Omega 9k was available then I think both cans are better than mine.

edit, yes, the ospray has almost no frp, and very quiet, but longer. The rev9 is 128 avg in k config. 6" long and iirc, 10 oz.

Based on those numbers the Rev 9 is a trade of weight for noise compared to the short tirant 9(similar length).

I like user servicability since I use mine on a 22 on occasion. Ymmv. The sights issue is irrelevant to me, other people feel the need to not shoot "through" the can, again, ymmv.

So, I think at this point you need to prioritize, length, weight or sound. I still think the rev9 offers the best balance, but each person has their own opinions on that.
