    P90/91L lamp ?

Has there been any news on a p90/91L type lamp? Or other high output Surefire drop in? I'm planning to pick up a P60L for my G2 on my SBR, but have a 9v on my 16" rifle and was looking for a higher output LED with decent runtime, something a couple hours at least. Any news on when Surefire might be releasing any other lamps?

Some of the conversions heads work on 3 cell lights also. I am going to test this week how well the Malkoff devices head (one of the best designs IMO) survives shooting. But the real test would be a shooting class.

Besides the well known Malkoff Devices LED drop-ins, there's also:

    < Lumens Factory >

They've recently come out with their drop-in LEDs. . .

    Enjoy!

How would running a Malkoff led lamp in a 9v light work? Just longer runtime? Any advantage? I can always convert the light back to a 6v. Maybe a P60L or an M60LL on my Mk18 and a regular M60 for the 16in rifle with the 9v?

    RD62,

If your 9V light accepts the P60/61 or P90/91 surefire lamps, it would be able to run off one of the drop in LED units for this purpose. Just make sure that the drop in can handle the voltage of the three cells.

In a 9V light with an LED you usually get more run time, but the outputs are probably going to be the same as a 6V system. The drop in modules run off little current regulating circuits. The 6V systems are usually smaller and weigh less, which you may find to be a larger advantage than 50% more run time with the light.

I'd just go with the 6V LED lights myself.

i'm very happy with TNVC's drop-in LED - victor's a member here. 256 lumens, and works in 6P or 9Ps. blows away the P60L. i did a brief writeup here:

The P60L was never designed to be a high output replacement light, Surefire has a P61L coming out that will sort of fill that role. But even that won't compete with the super high output drop ins, because Surefire says that they have been listening to their target target, LE/MIL, who, Surefire claims, say that the output is fine, but they wanted longer runtime.

PPGMD - understood. however, the existance and popularity for high-output LED drop-ins indicates that people want them.
i'd like to see surefire offer a few different LED replacement lamps of varying outputs and let the customer choose which one he wants - run time or brightness.
another option would be to offer a two-level high output lamp like those already existing. granted, you have to go through a couple of clicks to vary the outputs but that might be acceptable for some applications.

if "Surefire says that they have been listening to their target target, LE/MIL, who, Surefire claims, say that the output is fine, but they wanted longer runtime", i'm assuming that this applies to a specific application. my question would be then, where does that leave the heavier, more powerful surefire lights like their 9 and 12V weapons lights? there's obviously a demand for lights with longer throw and more output otherwise surefire would not be making them, or introducing their optimus and invictus hand helds with 200 and 400 lumen output.
with a 250-lumen drop in for the 6P, that puts it in the more powerful light category of weapons lights without the weight and bulk.

Thanks MM, the Q5 drop in looks very nice too. I see where you say the runtime is 2+ hours in a 6v, any idea the runtime in a 9v? Do you think the 256lumen output of the Q5 is too much for house clearing/CQB situations where light colored walls and reflective picture/mirror glass could washout a reticle, etc? I've never run a lamp that bright before especially indoors.

RD62 - i don't have enough knowledge to answer that question - i'm sure someone here can.

it's plenty bright indoors, and if you shine it at a white wall or mirror, sure, it'll wash out a reticle or reflect back a lot of light. but what's your target? chances are it's a person in non-reflective clothing, not a white wall or mirror, so you'd be able to see your reticle when you've identified your target.
no idea about runtime in a 9V.
