    MM,

I am sure there is a market for those lights or they wouldn't make them. But Surefire seems to aim each light for a market, the P60 and P90 based lights are aimed at patrol officers and such that want longer run time. I remember when a Coastie was telling me (before introduction of the newer Cree LEDs) that though he liked the size and output of his 6P, he disliked the battery life. Surefire listened to people like him, because them, and their agencies buy many more lights then people that are just looking for blinding lumens.

Myself I like the P60L for daily usage, and for light that I would use for a low light class, but I am experimenting with the Malkoff head 200+ lumen head for my 951 that I have on my rifle. I will likely post a review after I have a chance to put 1,000 rounds through the rifle with the light attached.

PPGMD - understood that surefire makes lights for each market. the attractiveness of the high output LEDs is for those (like me) who'd like the ability to upgrade existing lights without having to buy another. or switch back and forth between standard and high-output lamps depending on the need and specific situation. just the cheaper way out. i'm cheap

Lumens Factory has just released their D26-LED drop-in for the 6P (And similar) Surefire lights. It uses a Cree R2 LED. It should have slightly better performance over the current Q5 drop-ins currently on the market. I run Malkoff M60's (High Output) in all of my lights, so I will compare the two side-by-side when my LumensFactory R2 drop-in shows up next week.

MM, the place I'm getting mine from is claiming 290 lumens with a 4+ hour runtime.

That has not been released as of yet from LF. I assume it will be rated between 280-300+. LumensFactory has a excellent reputation from what I can find, so I am excited to see how it performs compared to the Malkoff M60's I have.

update: i ordered and received a couple of D26-LED High Output Single Mode LED Reflector Module (3.6V-13V) with the R2 led from lumens factory. i compared it to the 256 lumen TNVC Q5 drop-in last night. the D26 is brighter - so 280-300 sounds believable, using the TNVC as a reference and my uncalibrated eye. spot and spill size/shape are pretty much identical. the D26 just has more reach.
you do have to remove the outer spring on the D26 for use with surefire lights, leaving just the smaller inner one. if the D26 holds up, that's quite impressive for the price.

I will be getting a couple of these to try for myself.

Which Surefire light body are you using them in?
If they are direct replacements for the Surefire, why then would
you need to remove the outer spring assembly??

    Just curious...

i don't think it says anywhere that the factory lumens D26 is a direct replacement - the website says that it's 'compatible with' surefire flashlights. an orange tag comes with each reflector assembly stating that "the outer large spring must be removed if this LED reflector module is used in surefire flashlights".
the spring diameter is too large and doesn't allow it to seat properly.
i've tried them in the 6P, C2 centurion, scout, and G2.

I'm a little confused. The link I followed for specs on this lamp on the Lumens Factory website, didn't list the output as anything close to 280-300. Did I read it wrong? It appears to be for the R2 lamp.
