Port size for LMT MWS ?

I have an LMT MWS in 308. Love the gun. It runs hot as hell suppressed. Was thinking about using a Black River Tactical insert to reduce gas port size. I know it's a bit over gassed, but it runs fine both suppressed and I suppressed. Just runs hot.

For those of you in the know on these ideal gas port sizes, what range do you think we could go to and run both suppressed and unsuppressed ?

    Any feedback appreciated.

PB, uncharted territory as far as the forum knowledge base. I do know MWS have a pressed on GB as well as an angled gas-port. I don't think an insert will work, not sure you can even get the gas-block off. I have seen guys chop rifle length gas MWS barrels down to 16/16.5" to help with gassing suppressed. Otherwise an adjustable gas-key or custom barrel are the only other options I can think of.

I did this to my 18" 5R stainless barrel, it made a dramatic difference!

Pardon the resurrection, but it's germane to my current interests.

Standard 16" MWS barrel is .076 - the 13.5" factory barrel is .086

Wanting to chop a 16" to 14/14.5" and suppress it, but not sure if I'm going to have function issues doing so....

Yes, mid-length tube on the factory LMT MWS .308 16" barrel. Their 18"+ MWS barrels are rifle length.

What is an angled gas port?

PB, what can are you using? Our shooting group has had a few MWS with different cans. The MWS functions great with low back pressure cans, ie Surefire and DeadAir. Higher back pressure cans like SiCo saker and specwar...not so good.

Anybody try or use the can that LMT developed for the MWS? Seems going to an adjustable gas block would be the simplest solution, albeit not the cheapest...
