    Cut down 18" barrel?

Could I theoretically cut my 18 down to a 16 and keep the gas port the same size? It's a CMMG 18" ar10 308 barrel with a full length gas system. Thanks

Edit- I'm also wondering if I would be better off selling this upper and buying a factory 16? Not sure what this one is worth..

Personally for the price of it all... I would just pull the barrel, sell it and buy what you want.

Yea I agree. Just take it off, sell it and get your desired length

When you say "full length" I assume you mean rifle length. It's tricky to get a 16" 5.56 barrel to work with a rifle length gas system (can be done, but it cares more about what ammo you feed it vs midlength). I suspect the same is true with 308, but don't have any personal experience with it.

I'd be surprised if it worked well without touching the gas port.

Thanks for the help guys. I think since it sounds like it will be easier just to change the barrel and I was planning on getting a different hand guard I'll just sell this upper as I was originally planning on. Anyone interested in it?
