Adult daughter will be a new shooter...

I'v been going through my handguns to find what she can handle with her small hands. Any suggestions would be appreciated. So far I am going to try a 4 inch Ruger SP101 with mild loads and a Sig P239 in 9mm. They seem to have a short enough reach for the trigger pull.

How much work is she willing to put in, and how big is she? My ex was 5'2", and used to enjoy shooting my 5" Government with standard .45ACP even though she was usually better with the various smaller-frame Glocks. Then again, she was a riding instructor, and knew the trick of "lean into it like you're riding a horse"...

I'm not offering a reco, just noting that the Wisdom of the Crowd can better help if we know what we're dealing with.

My 20 yr old daughter loves my M&P Shield.
She shoots it quite well and is always bugging me to take her shooting.
She prefers it to my full size M&Ps (or any of my other handguns) which are pretty much too big for her hands. Good for you and her that she is wanting to learn!

Why are you looking? Let her do it. Rent some and let her find out what she likes

I tried this with my sister. A 5ft something, 120lb soak and wet 20 year old has problems shooting just about everything you'd think to give a girl. Give her a 6in 44mag with high pressure rounds and she'll shoot all day and put them in one hole and ask for more ammo. She thinks it's fun. Give her a J frame or a sub compact 9mm and she doesn't want to be bothered. It's annoying and has harsh recoil!.....her words. When I ask her to come to the range with me her reply is don't bother till you buy another Dirty Harry gun

She's now mid 30s and has no interest in guns unless she can shoot something 44mag or greater in a handgun

I've taken a number of females shooting most of them of smaller stature because my wife was a cheerleader. None of them had issues with a Glock 19 or even full size M&P 9, or even a 1911. Most of them just didn't like the recoil on the 1911. Have you given her the chance to look through your collection and hold anything that looks interesting?

M&P Shield, Browning Hi Power, 1911, CZ 75, G19...the possibilities are endless. Mild loads make almost anything possible really. I've seen all kinds of women shoot all kinds of guns.
