    Authoritative EMP engineering info

JIC you haven't seen these unclassified USG docs available on the internet and want to read up:

Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Protection and Restoration Guidelines for Equipment and Facilities, with Appendices A-C, v1.0, Dec 22, 2016

High Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP) Protection for Ground-Based C4I Facilities Performing Critical Time Urgent Missions, DOD MIL-STD-188-125-1, 17Jul1998

Very far from my area of expertise, but recall reading a paper sometime ago (?Los Alamos lab abstract perhaps) that the EMP threat is not as malignant as its made out to be...Will research and re-post later.

Here’s a conference paper from the DOD on EMP-related policy issues based on estimated impacts. Very serious discussion by knowledgeaBle commentators.

VERY disturbing. I guess ONE SECOND AFTER was right all along.

Yet there are still plenty of people who down play the threat that GMD's/CME's/HEMP's/etc. pose to are antiquated power grid.

Just when you thought you understood the problem...an article from 'Wired' arrives with the message that the grid might survive EMP "just fine".

FTA:"The study, by the Electric Power Research Institute, a utility-funded research organization, finds that existing technology can protect various components of the electric grid to buffer it from the effects of solar flares, lightning strikes, and an EMP from a nuclear blast all at the same time: a three-for-one surge protector."

Interesting article on the science of Faraday cages. It's all about the physics...
