    Gilman,

Please post a little more detail about the parts used (make and model of weapon) and pertinent info like that. My first guess is that something is wrong with the disconnector (spring) assuming that all parts are of decent manufacture.

I think I may have found the cause and solution to my problem. I initially went through the Army function check as laid out in the latest TM and found no issues. After my double shot I checked the forums, thought about the various suggestions, and did some research. I went back and did my function checks again and found in step 4 where the TM says to pull the trigger and cycle the bolt my hammer was not locking back all the time as it had been previously. Possibly because the shock of firing set the parts were they would be during normal operation which would be only slightly different that at assembly. I got one of my other ARs and started to do some swapping of parts and checking/comparing some specs.

I swapped the uppers and problem was not present on either AR.
I swapped everything back and swapped the bolt carrier assembly and problem was not present on either AR.
At this point it became apparent it was probably a tolerance issue, so I began comparing parts.
What I found was the hammer had a larger hole for the hammer pin than on my comparison AR, and it had different diameters between one side and the other, .164" & .1625". The hammer pin itself was .1535" in diameter which was the same as on my other AR, however the hammer pin hole on my other AR was .1555". It seams that slop is allowing the hammer to not lock like it should when cycling. Additionally I found that the J pin was not locking into the center groove of the hammer pin possibly allowing the hammer to move around even more.

I'll be getting a new hammer and then try it out, though it may be a while until I get to the range.

Be very careful about polishing the FCG.....they are surface hardend and if you polish through that surface hardness, your dealing with soft metal underneath.

    Speaking of pointless jailtime

I heard a story somewhere about an ex-marine who is In jail because he loaned his friend his ar. He had the m16 bolt and 3 position saftey in it( no auto sear, full auto hammer, trigger, or disconector in it) and if you hit the saftey just right you could get a short burst out of it.

And from what I've heard if your even accused of having an illegal full auto the ATF confiscates it and will make it fire automaticly. Ive heard they will replace the bolt, FCG, even entire upper/lower to make it fire automaticly.

All I'm saying is that the ATF needs to lighten up and stop sending people to jail, wasting Money and time and do something usefull with it like finding all of the illegally imported full autos that street gangs have.
