I had to smooth out my catch AND snip the spring. I checked my catch against two known ultra reliable guns. On my really reliable guns the catch barely has any spring tension at all! It's very fluffy and loose. I chucked up my plunger in the drill and hit it with some 400 grit paper too.

I wouldn't smoosh the spring. Just cut it. My CUT spring still has more tension than my other guns.

Just wanted to post another update -

I stretched the spring just a hint and got the tension to be very close to my 6933 - it takes a pretty good whack on the buttstock to close the open and locked back bolt with no mag in the weapon but it will not close if the weapon is struck anywhere else.

I went to the range and ran about 150 rounds of Wolf. I started by loading 1 round in several mags - all locked back. Then I would load 10 in the mag and shoot drills while on the move. The weapon functioned 100% with Wolf. Locked back and ran like a watch - never missed a beat.

I want a couple of other sessions with it before I am ready to consider the weapon 100% with all ammo types, but I'm pretty sure it is already there.

Thank you to all for the help.

Its starts by short-stroking and just failing to lock back o an empty mag, but after about 30-40 rounds will start failing to even strip a round off the mag. I end up having to run the charging handle every 2-3 rounds.

This also happens on our other guns, 14.5, 16 and 20" barrels, especially as they get dirty and dry. The failure rate with the frangible starts to go up, always fixed with a little lube to the bolt. The problem is just a lot more exaggerated with the 10.5".

I have wondered if putting a KX3 on the 10.5 would make it run better with the lower powered ammo?
I had a 10.5" Noveske BBL with the KX3 on it. I have an H buffer in the lower and the thing ran wolf like it was the good stuff! Never had a hickup.... but maybe the Noveske had a bigger gas port... I am not sure about that.

Wish I would have kept that upper. I am debating an LMT but getting nervous now. I like cheap(er) ammo too! Maybe its time for a new SBR'd AK!?
