In my opinion the PGO looses very little to a full stocked shotgun from 0-21 feet, out to 45 feet for better shooters, provided proper technique and ammunition (managed recoil buckshot) is used. I began carrying a PGO shotgun in 1985 for use in warrant service as a LEO and was taught the "push / pull" eye level shooting technique, using slugs, so that accuracy could be immediately accessed. Back in "the day" we didn't have the reduced recoil loads of today or the Hogue "Tamer" grip, so you really had to have the technique right.
My PGO these days is a Mossberg 500 with a Hogue "Tamer" grip. I never quite liked the "bird's head" grip popular today, and today's version of it is just a bit longer than the original and smacks me, although many find it comfortable. With the Hogue grip my 18.5" M500 is about an inch longer than the Shockwave. FYI: Winchester loads their 00 Ranger load to the same velocity as their AA #8 target load. Stay safe.
