Could this depend on when they were made? Someone please correct me if wrong but I think the early ones had no markings on them, them they started laser etching BCM on the back right side, now they mark them on the front above the port for the gas tube.
I don't own any to confirm that but I know I read it either here or on their website.
I'll agree with the selling products marked as blem to not devalue their normal stuff. I have a Geissele MK8 and I could find a thing wrong with it. There is a "X" added in with the regular engraving though which I believe shows it's a blem.

I loc-tited the screws on the light mount that always wants to loosen up. I also cleaned the carbine it mounts to since I couldn't be bothered after my last range trip or three.

BCM blem/demo uppers still have the BCM engraving above the gas tube hole, don’t they?
The only blem upper I purchased did have a noticeable marring/discoloration on one side. Ended up selling it (with full disclosure), but would have had no concerns building it out.

I don't believe it's a marketing strategy, but I bet 98% of the "blems" happen before they are laser engraved. I bought one a few years back that had a scratch from the charging handle notch all the way to the barrel nut threads. It functioned fine though and had "BCM4" engraved above the gas tube hole.
My stripped BCM blem upper is "BCM4" marked above the gas tube hole and had scratches in the solid film lube on the inside.
Ok, what I did to my AR today; I took it out [the one with the BCM blemished upper] and looked for BCM markings, none to be found. Just the streak in the finish just below the rail. To me it looks like it was tossed into a box with others to be sold, moved about the warehouse a few times then dug out when I ordered...
Unless something has changed, since I haven’t bought a receiver in a while, only complete rifles have the laser etched logo. Whether it’s new or blem, a bare receiver will not bear the BCM logo. I always assumed it’s so you can’t build a rifle with 90% non-BCM parts and call it a BCM.
Ordered QD swivels (I went airsoft on these because they're never gonna see serious load, just for securing a little USB stick) and picked up some Harbor Freight key-tags so I can attach "maintenance log" flash drives to each of my rifles. Also snagged the Vickers sling for the M4 clone.
