SOLGW Al sling mounts have been working well for me lately, and they’re pretty affordable.

Would you mind elaborating on the round count log thing? I’ve been using rack numbers and paper logs, but I could be persuaded to use a lazier method.

Logs are something I'm definitely lacking in. I've never tracked what I have done. I have a vague idea but that's it.

Was thinking of asking for examples of what people take for notes. I almost think it would be easier to make a spreadsheet or note log on my phone.

Hanging a USB off your rifle just sound like a good way to lose or break a USB...

Since I carry a laptop or tablet everywhere I go like a digital colostomy bag, my thinking was to use it and an Excel spreadsheet for a digital version of the hardcopy logbooks some guys use. Log number of rounds fired, malfunctions, round count and mag number at time of malfunction, any performed maintenance procedures, cleaning and plug in advance reminders for scheduled preventative maintenance. For *serious* work like actually mounting slings, I stick to Magpul or other reputable brands (which I would include SOLGW as), or whatever the sling vendor provides. It'll probably see pencil-and-notepad used when on the firing line as a temporary "buffer" to store data, then feed into the system once off to the back bench or over lunch afterward.

My phone gives me fits trying to type on it with my fat fingers and its tiny on-screen keys, but I have my tablet set up as a "mini-laptop" complete with keyboard and mouse.

I have had a couple complete lower assemblies laying around for a while. I received an e-mail from Primary Arms a couple days ago where they had an AERO PRECISION 16" upper assembly (minus BCG and CH) for $329.99. Today, I pulled the plug and ordered it. I already have a BCG and CH I will use as well as a set of MAGPUL MBUS sights. I also have an AERO PRECISION 30mm scope mount that I will utilize. I am contemplating on ordering a Primary Arms 1-4x24 scope for it.

Looking forward to another great build. Done yet? PA ships pretty quickly.

Painted the FSB I shaved down. Converting a bare bones midlength A2 style to free float w/ VTAC rail.

Turning bad ass into more bad ass....but an as old Manchu 11B, it pained me somethin' fierce to cut that bayo lug off...
