Does ANYONE offer optic rentals?

Do you not have any experience using a RDS? I have had both and prefer the single dot. The only time the circle was faster for me was at very close range where just hitting the target was more important than where you hit it. The circle was no more than a giant dot. If you are depending on the circle to draw your eye to the dot you probably aren't using the sight correctly. With a RDS you look at the target with both eyes open not the dot. The the rifle fits you the dot is there when you mount the weapon. Maybe I am old fashion but for me the fewer things I have to think about the more efficient I am. The circle is one of those things.

Maybe post in a regional / local forum if anyone has XYZ set up you'd like to meet them at a range and shoot their gun. Offer a case of beer or whatever. At the range I'm always open to letting an interested party fire a few rounds from my M1 Garand, so you never know.

^^^^^^^^ With the exception of the occasional ahole this would work. If I were at the range I'd let him try my rifle or pop off my scope off and put it on his rifle.

I've sent optics to members on here and they paid for shipping to try out. Aimpoint M4s. MK6 TMR-D, Etc, etc. Everything in QD mounts though..

Problem is, when you ship an aimpoint pro for instance, your looking at 15-20 bucks with full insurance each way. If you like the optic and want to buy one, your now out an additional 30-40. So your 400 dollar pro just turned into 440. Or 440 turned into 480. When you can buy a used one on the EE for 325 shipped in some cases, you can use it for as long as you like, and still get your 325 back out in a heart beat if you don't like it.

I like purchasing items and using them to give them a go for as long as I see fit. And most times making it a wash on the sale pending what kind of deal I got on the optic. Plans to get out to shoot can change the day of, and if I had a rental, I bet I would be sending it back before I could even shoot it.

I think your local discussion board and meeting folks at the range, or whatever, is the easiest way. Hard part is finding a guy that's local that has the exact optic you want. I see lots of Aimpoint Pro's at the range, but I haven't come across anyone else, that wasn't in a rifle or carbine class, rocking a CQBSS or something alike.

I have thought of this idea for years. Need a lot of capital to make it work (as a business).

I think it could be a viable business. There are a ton of places that rent high end camera lenses. A lot of those lenses cost as much and more than a SB PM2. I think the problem is ensuring the optics would not be beaten up. Photographers take care of their lenses and I took care of the ones I rented. Putting something on a gun could be a different story.

I've got a fair amount of experience with cheaper red dots. Just want to upgrade to something I trust a bit more to work always when needed.

I've got no experience with holographic sights and don't know anyone using one. Want to get my hands on one to try before I buy either.

I've thought about doing that as well. But it's a lot harder to explain that I'm buying something to sell later than it is to borrow or rent something to try out.

The logic works for me, not the girlfriend.
