Just a theory, but if there were paint in the gas port, the paint may have flaked off and is blocking the gas tube or gas block.

Wanted to follow up to this. Upon disassembly, or starting to disassemble anyway, I noticed what appeared to be a crack along the side of the PSA BCG. It wasn't significant, but it ran the vertical length of the carrier. So I replaced it with a Toolcraft BCG and it seems to be working well. I should have more range time in the next few weeks and will report back. Pics of the BCG attached.
