The 16" OAL barrel 551s have about 14.5" of rifled barrel. The integral flash hider is shorter than those found on the 551 short barrel, 551 long barrel, and 550. I would far prefer they offer a threaded barrel that is identical in length to the crown as that of the 16" OAL 551 barrel, then offer US made flash hiders that are the same spec as that of the 16" OAL 551 barrel. The flash hider could then be added, blind pinned/welded to make a 16" OAL barrel and a title-1 rifle with the requisite US parts.

JDI has received the first round of "conversion kits" and have them up on their facebook page. They are 13 inch barreled diopter 553s in 556. Sold out but more coming.

Question: If I were to form 1 one of my san swiss lower recievers as an sbr, could I rotate 553 and 551 uppers onto it (even though those uppers also have serial numbers). I doubt it but it would be a cool way of running multiple uppers on a designated lower - like an AR. Be an interesting legal case.

If a large number of people are willing to kill you for saying something, then it probably really needs to be said. .

I just dropped a check in the mail. I will post a CH porn pik in about a week or two - or less. I am the guy who had a new CCF receiver disappear for several years. My wife boxed it up and stored it over my mom's house. I re-discovered the item by accident.

Does a short barreled rifle have to have a short barrel? When you apply for the SBR tax stamp you are asking to create an SBR - once the ATF grants you permission, does the configuration matter at that point, as long as it doesn't blunder into other NFA territory, like FA or suppressed?

Speaking of FAMAE, a quirk in Canadian law means they can buy them. Here's the distributor's page:

Nope. The upper receiver is the firearm on sig 55x series. You'd have to SBR each upper individually.

I hadn't realized - thanks. I guess the what I was thinking would only work with the 55x if rebarreling was easy, like it is not on a G3.

Otherwise, it would be interesting to see what would happen if you simply applied for an SBR with rifle dimensions. Would it be disapproved? If it went through, the "Firearm" application could be used to "non-sporting imported rifles" using the NFA. Considering the price of some pre-bans, a lot of people would be very happy to put a rifle together from newly imported parts by paying for a $200 tax stamp.

I wish JDI had a sister import company with a cool name like Swiss US or something.

I though this may interest those who care about 922(r) compliance .

While I normally do not like AR furniture on non-AR rifles, I decided to break this rule on my 553 sbr in order to get 2 US parts. I added a SPG Tech M4 stock adapter with a 6-pos receiver extension, BCM receiver endplate QD sling mount, and BCM stock. It's very nice. Recently I asked a friend who does a bunch of stipling and plastic work to see if he could mod a MOE-K2 grip to fit the SIG lower. I think it turned out nicely on the first pass.

Josh, will the US made Sig556 pistol grip not fit?
