While not necessarily a single accessory, I believe that Magpul as a company has revolutionized the AR accessory market.
For me, the X300 performs out of proportion to it's small size and light weight. The beam is bright and has a good throw. I like that I can quickly mount it to my AR or handgun and that it's small enough to slip into my pocket. The switch only has two modes- temporary and constant and easy to select either mode.
The only downsides I can think of is that during constant use, battery life is short and battery changes aren't as simple as I'd like. It's not a cheap light, but it's given me years of trouble free service and to me, well worth what I paid for it

any RELIABLE red dot style optic - I prefer Aimpoint Micros
I have bought a trigger, a scope mount and a flashlight mount from LaRue Tactical, and I am amazed at how well their stuff is made, and how well it works.
There's lot of good gear out there, Aimpoints, ACOG's, Geissele's, Suppressors, Surefires, etc.
An unmentioned "accessory"/part that I really like is the SLR Sentry 7 Adjustable Gas Block, particularly when shooting suppressed.
I'm on the bandwagon with everyone else. Aimpoint Micros and Geissele triggers are fantastic. Like Markm, I think the BCM KMR is incredible. When combined with the BCM KM rails panels, very impressive.
A lot of great replies on this thread, and while I would love to say I put an Aimpoint Micro, Trig ACOG, or other optic on every AR I have, it's just not in the budget.
For me, an "always" is a Magpul hand guard and a DD rear iron sight. Call me anachronistic, but I like A-frame front sights on all my AR's, this gives me options and little negatives if I put an optic on the gun.
"Serious" guns get red dots, Aimpoints, while range toys and misc. others get good irons. I am still of the belief that it's good to know how to shoot irons, and it's fun and challenging regardless of one's philosophy.
