This thread has really gotten entertaining!
You might have missed the part where Defoor found that length of sight radius offered the best balance of speed and accuracy, where as long or hsoter lengths offered nothing in the speed department and minimal gains in the accuracy department.

This is M4C, couldn't care less about shooting paper matches from known distance fixed firing positions. I do agree that a 14.5" or 16" middy is a great compromise over the limited space the carbine length handguard offers.

Sight radius hasn't crossed my mind in a very long time. I hope I'm not behind the curve here.
And to add to the original convo, in addition to nickel boron parts, I also am not a huge fan of when people mount optics to detachable A2 carry handles. Shit makes no sense![]()

Not something I typically see. Is it the height or the fit you don't like? I'd think the carry handle would be just as tight as any other removable mount. I remember seeing red dots that hung off the front of the carry handle back in the day. Haven't seen one of them in years.
I was browsing through the ARF picture thread and saw it happen twice... I'm not opposed to sticking a mini acog on an actual A2 but IMO when you add something like that to a detachable its just one more thing that can come loose. Also, the detachable carry handle was made so that you wouldn't have to do that.

I find a lot of the current offerings in the marketplace emphasize style over function. Things like skeletonized receivers, skeletonized VFG, skeletonized pistol grips, skull shaped magwells, titanium takedown pins, etc.. I also am somewhat dismayed by what seems like 90% of the handguards on the market currently. They all look too lightweight and flimsy to really hold up to any hard use. To me M-lok, and keymod are answers to questions nobody asked.
Gun decoratin'.
I am not intimately in tune with every aspect of the AR15 market but going by the preponderance of offerings, I conclude that the well-decorated AR is more important to a larger segment of the market than the rock-solid, safe, dependable, durable, accurate AR is.
