Nice rifle!!! I am getting ready to pick up my first AR. I was looking at the MP15T, but now I may have to get this one. Maybe I'll just get both.

    Grant,

Besides the $1375 price for the rifle, do you think that you can get, or will they ever sell, just the upper?

I have a couple of lowers that I was planning on building up, one as a carbine. I almost called in an order to Noveske on Friday for an upper.

Now I know the SW isn't a Noveske, but I'm really just looking for a good, solid gun, and this comes as close as close as I've seen.

For almost the price of the Noveske upper, that is really tempting.

Just been looking around and I think that $1374 is his price, not the price to us. Saw some others selling them for $1600, which wouldn't be a bad deal, but a lot less tempting. That's what I'll think till Grant replies so that I won't get my hopes up.

Can we add it to the "CHART" to see how it stacks up?

These are very nice rifles indeed.
I don't know if you knew it JFreuler but Ernest Langdon (S&W Gov't sales) and I and others have been pressing S&W to make this rifle a midlength. I was glad to hear after some serious prodding that they finally went to steel gas blocks on the M&P15T and now the VTAC and pinned them. I had to fix so many early aluminum set screwed only gas blocks on M&P15Ts I was literally pulling my hair out.

I'm really looking forward to putting it through it's paces during a class in two weeks.

A few more pictures of the rifle in it's present configuration.

I knew some of the earlier T-Models had some issues with the gas block not being properly installed and it was nice to see that they have fixed the gas block issue. Lately a few troopers here have purchased the T-Models and have brought them by the armory for me to look over. About the only thing lacking in the production line now is for them to use loc-tite on the sights when they install them. I have spoken to them about this on numerous occasions but I have yet to see it done.

The M&P line of rifles has come a long way and has a lot of potential if the engineers will just listen to the end users.

Concerning the M&P lines. I have a very early model (096xx) and it has been flawless and so far everything I have checked on it meets specs. I went threw tons of threads here and checked them off one by one. Mine also loves P-Mags... seems the next year models were having tons of issues, then with the newer ones, everything is cleared up again?? I "think" I got an early Stag model M&P15. I really like the rifle, and after seeing that Vtac upgrade stuff, it gave me more ideas

    JFreuler,

Now that you've had the gun for a few months.....anything that really stands out to the VTAC model as compared to other AR platform's that you've used (likes / dis-likes)?

How did this model hold up in the Tiger Swan class?

    Take care and be safe

When I first saw this VTAC rail design in Green Eyes and Black Rifles I thought it was the dumbest thing ever. Now it's grown on me and I can appreciate the design that went into it. I am also curious, like Jeff, what you like and dislike about the rifle. Have you owned another AR with the more 'average' style rail, like a LaRue or Daniel Defense to compare one of those to the VTAC?

I like the forend because it's not like a four rail model where I'm going to be hanging all kinds of MIL stuff off it, but you could if you wanted. I'd like to see a slightly longer version to cover a gas block on a rifle length gas system for an accuracy build.
