    Blowback through surefire socom mount

Question about my setup, I'm wondering if this is normal (my first silencer)...When shooting I can feel blowback on my forward hand, it actually started to turn my hand black. It has to be coming from the surefire mount based on where I can feel it. The gas block and barrel in front of it (and the BCM Keymod) is turning black in front too and I'm even getting carbon buildup on the forward part of the barrel. Could this be coming from the round vertical ports on the Warcomp and back through the mount onto my hand/barrel?

    My setup:
    -11.5 DD barrel
-BRT .067 gas port reducer (built before I knew I was getting the can)
    -Surefire Warcomp
    -Surefire SOCOM RC2
-H2 buffer with standard carbine spring

It runs both with and without the can but I can tell its overgassed with it on. I get a little back through the charging handle but not much. My plan is to reduce the port some more to run suppressed only but is there anything else I should look at regarding the gas/carbon up front?

My spr has a SOCOM RC and brake mount. I get a small streak of soot around 6 o'clock on the barrel near the mount. Never worried about it though.

I get that too. Never worried about it either.

Same from my Socom SB and Mini. Probably from the alignment boss and corresponding relief, they're not airtight, which is probably a good thing for removal.

I think so, yes. From your description it sounds like the gas block-barrel interface, or the gas block-gas tube interface has more leakage than it should. Can you tell if the gas is coming from the gas block, or going toward the block? A bit of gas leakage is normal, particularly for a new build before all the interfaces seal. However, it's too much if it turns your hand black.

It's definitely not the gas block. I ran this from about November last year until 3 weeks ago without a can and no leaks, no marking from around the GB. Also my grip is in front of the GB and the front of my hand is what's catching the gas so it can only be coming from the back of the can. If photobucket wasn't stupid I'd put up a picture...entire barrel from the back of the can to around the gas block is black now (I coated it with FDE so it's easy to see). I guess my main question is: This normal or not?

Can you elaborate? Are you saying this is common for RC2s?

A small streak of soot seems different than what the OP is describing.
