I really want an M16A1 clone, as that is what I was issued when I was in the Marine Corps. My first civilian AR was a Colt SP1 that I foolishly sold off when short of funds.

I'm really tempted at the new Brownells Retro, but I'm getting a bit of sticker shock. I'm tempted to build one myself using their parts. Except I might go for their retro barrel that is actually a 1/7 twist. Only so I can shoot whatever I have in the range bag that day. But then I may just buy their complete rifle and keep enough M193 type ammunition on hand for this gun.

Is this something I would use as an LE Patrol Rifle to clear a building or sit on a perimeter with? Is is my preferred setup for home defense? Of course not, as I have other carbines that are more up to the task. For me, it is a range toy wrapped in nostalgia. But if forced to press it into service for defensive purposes, a clone build of the M16A1 would definitely beat a sharp stick...

Yeah, I'm an odd duck and maybe fat-boy nerd has no business trying to share the playground with the cool kids, but I'm past the point where I really care anymore.
Yeah, that. I still have my slab sided SP-1 carbine that I qualified on as a LEO back around 1990. With the thousands of rounds fired pencil barrel, she'll still drive tacks with 55gr rounds.

<--- I REALLY WANT a triangle handguard A1 like I carried in Da Army starting back in 1982... I'm going to find a Colt though unless these are that much better. Yeah, I know. OK, gotta go fart up some dust.

Since you carried the A1 also, you know this to be true. All things considered, A1 versions were carried for years and did the job just fine. Yes, the more accurate barrels and the rail systems so you can hang an extra pound or two of accessories on it are nice. It's a simple pleasure to take an ultra light A1 and just shoot with the iron sights off of the carrying handle. My SP1 Carbine served me well for years with the Gen-1 RDS on top of the carrying handle. Yes, even clearing buildings and holding perimeters. That was state of the art chit back in the late 80's and early 90's...

I'd still pick my Colt 6940 if I was pressed back into service, but I can still run the chit out of my SP1 if needed. OK. Back to farting dust.

Wondered when somebody was gonna out as a Bolan Dork... I actually redrew and fleshed out the plans for Stony Farm in my high-school architecture class.
You really have to ask why Conservatives have guns? Because Liberals block freeways, burn cities, throw Molotov cocktails, loot, turn over cop cars, and think this behavior is Socially Acceptable.

College roommate had an AMP. Real deal, right at 4 lbs loaded.

Had to do hand workouts to have enough pinch strength to pull back the slide more than once. Like a mutant Ruger mk 1 on steroids, could only get your thumb and index finger pads on the slide tabs.

It's notably easier if the hammer is cocked first.

Damn, man, you edited just as I was about to attempt a funny.

"Cooked" hammer? Do you bake, broil, grill, flambe, simmer, saute or parbroil those? (And now that I've just outed myself as having way too many cooking classes under my belt...)

    Lol, damn autocorrect.
Yeah, just broil it in the oven for about 15 min, bolt comes right back.
Don't leave any ammo in it, though.
