    Question Shortest barrel length upper?

Does anyone know of an upper with a rifle length gas system with a barrel shorter than 18 inches? Is that even possible?

And what is the shortest possible barrel with a mid-length gas system?

Anything can be used as a sex toy, if you are brave enough. With that out of the way, the next question is why? We have proven barrels/lengths and gas systems that work. What do you gain by have a rifle gas system with a barrel less than 18" as opposed to staying with a midlength?

    Looks like a Dissipator--jam-o-matic IIRC, there's a reason most modern Dissies use a concealed lo-pro middy gas system and a Kino-style faux-FSB.

Why do people **** around with proven systems for gains they can’t even verbalize? Just run a goddamn middy.

Are you considering a full time suppressed rig? If not, the typical barrel lengths available in rifle and mid length gas systems exist for a reason, as said above. There are some 16” barrels and uppers available with gas systems longer than mid length, though.

My admittedly limited understanding is the longer the gas system the lighter the recoil. So I’m curious about max length possible with various barrel lengths.

Yeah the best way to tame the recoil of a 5.56 AR is to go put a few rounds through a M1 Garand or M1A.
