I’ve had BattleComp 1.0s on the rifles I shoot most for years. I like them a lot and have never felt the need to look for something different. I don’t know if they help with axial recoil...my A5 stock system manages that extremely well and the AR15 doesn’t have much recoil. But I do know that the BattleComp helps significantly with mitigating the torque recoil that wants to kick the muzzle up and right. It help me get back on target quickly.
I don’t know about the relative merits of one comp vs another. I do know that everyone has their favorite and will loudly defend their choice to the death. I think the difference between the various brands depends on control of muzzle rise vs noise/flash. The two are mostly inversely proportional and your challenge is to find the comp that provides the balance between the two that meets your needs. Me...I want best recoil and muzzle rise control. Noise/blast is secondary.
