    1/7 twist barrel shooting 55gr

I've heard some people say that 1/7 twist barrel can't shoot 55gr. Is this true? The barrel is a 14.5 chrome line barrel CMMG. I've heard that it "overstabilizes"? although im not shooting at people... just paper targets. how is this?

    What's the best ammo for 1/7? 62gr? 69gr? or should I go to the 75 and 77s? I just need a cheap plinking round. 55gr m193 ball?

I have used nothing but XM193 through my 1/7 LMT barrel and had fantastic results both in stabilization and accuracy. IIRC a 1/7 twist will stabilize from 55 through 77 but seems to break apart smaller rounds due to the thinner jackets.
My belief is that they were planning to hijack the coveted Mortal Combat game unit.

Both of my 1:7" barrels (10.5" LMT and 16" Noveske N4) shoot 55-grain bullets just fine. Thousands and thousands of rounds, just fine.

Any 55-grain FMJ plinking load will work in your barrel. The people who are telling you it won't are mistaken. It's only the really lightweight (like 40- to 45-grain) varmint bullets that you might have problems with.

I have a 1x7 twist 16 inch LMT that will put 77GR bullets into 1/2 inch at 100, but I'm lucky to get 1 inch groups at this distance with commercial 55GR loads. At 200 the 55GR loads are less than impressive from a target shooting perspective, for 'area' shooting they work just fine. Let me put it this way, if I'm taking a class from Magpul Dynamics, and I'm using the 1x7 upper, then I'll be shooting 55GR bullets, but for hunting with a 1x7 upper, I use as heavy a bullet as I can find.

The FMJ 55GR loads seem to do better out of the 1x7 than do the myriad of 55GR soft points that I've tried at considerable expense.

I think if one wishes to stay under/at 1 MOA with any sort of 55GR SP, then it will have to be one of the plastic tipped "Ballistic Tip" bullets, reguardless of rifle twist.

    5.56mm Mythbusters

We shot metric buttloads of M193 out of 1-7 Colt M16A2 / 723 Carbines and M4s at Range 37 at Fort Bragg.

    Shoots pretty straight, too.

55gr in 1/7 is definatly good to go. I have a bcm upper and it shoots federal xm193 like a beast.

They shoot "fine" and that's what they're supposed to do. Out of my 1:8 JP/Voigt rifle, they'll do about .5 with my handloads. That rifle gobbles up 69 SMK's at under .25 MOA all day, but is meant for 3-Gun.

In my teaching/training rifle, I use a 1:9 and it'll spin the 55's easily under a minute. So, in your 1:7 they'll do fine. While there are "rules" to what bullet will work in what twist barrel, ultimately, barrels are different, loads are different, and what works in your rifle, is what WORKS in YOUR rifle.

Some months ago I made a post asking if anyone has experience out to about 600 yards with 1/7 and 55 gr. M193. Got a couple of replies. My 16 in. 1/9 with 55 gr M193 can hit 3ftx3ft and 2ftx2ft metal targets on a windless day at 650 yards. I am curious to see if anyone on this thread has any feedback on 1/7 55gr. M193 hitting small targets such as I mentioned at 600 yards???

sub moa @ 100 yards is ok. it should be understandable that at 200yards you'll need something heavier like a 62gr or 69gr.

Coz I just ordered a CMMG 14.5in in 1/7 twist. most of my ammo are military m193.

what about wolf 55gr? will it work?
