Second place earns a body bag.
I have around 30-35 and it feels like I have too many. $10/magazine ain't bad, but I would rather spend that money on ammo or booze or entertainment, given that I am--to my mind--squared away regarding mags. Different strokes.
Also, if you have $2k for a budget, get a KAC and be done with it.
I think I have the upper picked out that I want, but I'm not sure if I should go with the ELW or the standard government profile. Any advice?
The KAC SR-15 does look like a good option as well, but is the value there? Is it worth the extra money? (Just because 2k is my max budget, doesn't mean I have to spend it all)
If I were doing it all over again, I'd get a 6920 OEM 2 and do as I suggested.
Or, I'd get a KAC SR15.
Not a lot in between.
Everyone that I know that has one can't say enough good about them, and if you were to just do a line-item cost analysis of what features they have and what it costs to get those same features with aftermarket parts, you'll quickly see where the money is going.
The KAC has a lot of proprietary parts going for it, all stuff that makes it better than a standard AR, at least in theory.
As far as mags, I’m also in the boat of 20-40 is plenty. I didn’t go through the AWB ban but I can’t imagine I’d shoot so much that I’d burn out that many mags, considering the quality of the M3 PMAG.

Sic semper tyrannis.
So in theory its worth the money, but is it in reality?
You need 1000 magazines!

In all seriousness, mags are consumable, they can fail from use, etc. One doesn’t have to remember the AWB...just think about the end of 2012 and the first 6 months of 2013. Mags were difficult to come by then too. Just get decent quality (Okay, Magpul, Lancer). Just One middle aged guy’s opinion.
