    elk hunting moon phase ?

I prefer the week of the new moon when bowhunting the backcounty for elk. I'm curious if anybody prefers a different moon phase and why?

I don’t bow hunt, just handgun and rifle.
I prefer “less moon the better” for deer/hogs. With much above quarter moon the animals become more nocturnal, less chance of seeing them during legal shooting hours (at least with deer).

I concur, new moon or less than 1/4 and deer ( and probably elk) tend to move more during legal hunting hours.

I am more concerned about wind. Five out of six days last elk season, it blew 40 every day.

Deer are active before an approaching front, wind is a deal breaker- it interferes with their sense of smell/hearing and sight is affected by branches/stuff blowing around.
When it's windy, it's usual to find game bedded down in heavy cover/timber.
