I have one safe queen; a '68 Colt government that was my dad's only pistol. He wasn't a collector, he was a shooter but he took very good care of it. It has been mine since 1986 when he died and for many years it was stored in it's original box with the silicone gun cloth the shop gave him and whatever oil he put on it. For many years it was in a non-climate controlled storage unit to no ill effect. Then I got it and shot it a couple of times then put it away. Things happen and I had to put it in non-climate controlled storage for two years [Atlanta area] but I had greased the rails and oiled everything else like it was a shooter. Again no ill effects. Now it rests in the bottom of my safe, in the original box with the silicone gun cloth dad put in there. Due to this thread I'm going to check it today but I expect nothing untold to have happened.

Presently I use Ballistol as my cleaner and light oil, Mobil 1 for a thicker oil and Enos slide glide #3 [thickest stuff] for grease applications. If I expect a moist environment, as often happens here, I wipe down exposed surfaces with Boeshield. I tried Froglube a few years ago and found it turned to a sticky paste, I would not recommend it.

I use this stuff, WD40 Specialist long term corrosion inhibitor. No complaints other than the price, it runs $11-12 a can.

I know people that use Breakfree Collector in H-Town (H stands for humidity). I've never used the stuff because my guns are all Workin' Girls, not Safe Queens.

Breakfree LP: on bolts, lugs, piston rings of ARs.

Breakfree CLP: everywhere else on guns.

Breakfree Collector: supposed to be for storage.

A good portion of my collection are safe queens, nostalgia pieces. My go to SHTF weapons get out far more often- so they maybe get a quick wipe down after cleaning.

I still have several safe queens which are mostly pre-lock, pinned/recessed S&W revolvers. I've been selling off some since I retired but still have a bunch of the old Smiths squirreled away. My situation may be different since I live in dry desert climate but for long term store of guns that don't get regular usage, I wipe them down with a clean soft rag sprayed with a bit of preservative like Birchwood Casey Sheath. Then I polish them dry with another clean soft cloth and store them in my safes.

This has worked for many decades. For example, here's a set of 29-2 in various barrel length dating back to the seventies.

Oh how I like that response, well done titsonritz. Of all the shit I have , only two queens. A Dirty Harry and and Colt SAA in .22. Other than that, I show no mercy on barrels or guns or other. But my God I want those S&W blasters. Those guns barely have the wheel spin track going around. Pure sexy. Ive only one. I shoot 5/6 of my treasures.

Not particularly damp but not arid either, and no corrosion yet, although they are also not blue steel.
+1 on the Zcorr bags. I've used these for several years with great success.
