Most likely your LGS doesn't deal with KAC direct, but goes through someone like RSR or someone like that.

Yep! It's the same shop! (Hello there fellow M4C neighbor)

So, I went back over the weekend and got pictures... as well as clarification. I asked to see the "KAC" rifle again and asked if it was a factory KAC. As before, I was told it was. Obviously, it wasn't, so I directly asked the guy at the counter if it came from KAC direct or from a distributor - he said it came from a distributor.

My guess is the people working there just don't know enough about KAC to know that there's a major difference between a factory rifle and a frankengun built with a KAC lower.

In any case, I got pictures. Sorry for the poor quality and lighting. I dropped my iPhone on a trip recently and it doesn't focus as well as it used to.

    Clicky for images.

If it's not obvious, the upper and barrel are CORE-brand. The bolt and BCG are likely CORE too (they're definitely not KAC, but I didn't have a chance to take a picture of them). The rail is a KAC URX 3.1 with LWRC sights. Charging handle is a ambi BCM Gunfighter. The lower looked like a complete SR-15 KAC ambi lower. My guess is that the distributor (whoever they were) got some complete KAC lowers and stripped CORE uppers, and put them together with URX rails. That's my best guess, anyway.

Again, I don't think this is a direct attempt by the shop to pull one over. They're a fairly stand-up shop with good discounts for LE and military. I truly believe this is just ignorance more than anything else.

Im not an expert, but I own over 8 Noveske rifles, not one of them came with a B5 or LMT SOPMOD from the factory. It could be that your dealer is swapping parts.

Had to look up CORE, not particularly impressive offerings from what I can see on their site.

Maybe I’m wrong, but they don’t appear to be making a top grade AR-15 type rifle, much less something in the same spectrum as a complete SR-15 .

Wow, I was expecting the non-ambi lower to be on there but it’s an ambi lower. Hard to read the markings on the barrel, what does it say?

    It's a CORE model number. It says "C155.56" (CORE-15 5.56).

Core is basically Anderson quality and priced similar. If someone pay s 2k for that gun they are getting ripped hard. 7-800$ lower with probably $400-500 in parts on the upper. Half that being the KAC rail

None of the distributors I've dealt with would cook up something like that.

If the gun is new I'd guess the upper and lower came into the shop separately, possibly the dealer added a KAC rail to and already assembled CORE upper (or just built to upper from parts) to go with the lower (budget upper parts would give them a bigger margin assuming they can convince a customer the rifle is worth the $2k asking price). If they're an 01 FFL (as opposed to an 07/Manufacturer), assembling uppers for sale in house is problematic and can potentially get them in hot water with ATF.

Another possibility would be that the dealer purchased the gun used and is hoping it's "close enough" to an SR-15 for someone to give them the asking price. I can't tell from the tag if the gun is being sold as new or used.

Again, I can't imagine something like that coming as a complete rifle from a distributor.

At an absolute minimum, that is dishonest. Being sold as a KAC weapon, it is 100% causing damage to the reputation of KAC by using substandard parts. If the box and supplied advertising material are listing it as KAC with Core being secondary, and this is coming from an actual company and not some bubba selling weapons, I would expect KAC litigation to come quickly with a minimum of a cease and desist.

    That is flat out bad.

Thanks for updating the post with pics.

Makes me wonder what the status is with that “Noveske” up on the wall. I’m also wondering if the stocks are even legit, or if they have a Chinesey smell to them....
