I would have gone straight to the ER as they are better equipped. I had to take my dad in when he nicked and I mean almost amputated his at least his finger with a table saw.

I wish you a swift recovery.

What did you pinch it between? The board and what? How far was the drop?

Yeah, that's not an urgent care injury...

You have a consult with an ortho doc afterward?

Did this on a deployment with an 80lb dumbbell. We were cleaning out our little makeshift gym and I was racking up a set of 80's and the back clipped the rack and came down and smashed my right index finger. Split the whole tip open very similar to that. The blocks hurt more than smashing it. Three stitches. They had to call in some hand specialist. Half my skin was over the nail and you could look straight in the tip and see bone.

Nerves grow back slow, but they do grow back. Grafts will hurt, don’t be afraid to ask for meds. Prayers for you.

I slammed my right pinkie finger between a large chunk of oak and my wood furnace door opening, blew it apart like yours... I thought I broke it and had pieces of bone sticking out but it was actually the muscles and such.. the took x-rays and put some stitches in it.. the local they injects in it hurt worse then when I smashed it..you will heal, it will just be painful for a awhile.. mine healed but is slightly disfigured from all the compression damage to the muscles

Plastic surgeon or orthpaedist...whichever specialty does the hand surgery in your neck of the woods. This is not likely something for your run-of-the-mill general orthopod. You'll want a hand surgeon. The old saying goes..."the hand is 90% of the arm, and the thumb is 90% of the hand".

Field treatment for this would be wrapping it with gauze and possibly splinting it. While I'm sure quite painful, this is not even remotely an immediately life threatening injury. The only life threatening thing about this is the infection that could result.
