Thermolds might be worth a shot. If you do try them, based on my experience, I'd replace the springs.

I always liked these way back when because they didn't have a carry handle, and looked different from an AR. Now with the switch to mainly flattops on AR's, that is a moot issue. Still, that is a nice find in a retro rifle. Congrats!
Damn cool rifle and good score.
I had really hoped that Armalite wouldn't screw the pooch on the 180B's but yeah.

Its a shame the AR-180 is more of a collectors piece than a shooter. In retrospect perhaps I should have kept mine.
I have to disagree to those that say the AR18 is inferior to the M16. It was developed after the AR, and it since the AR was accepted my the U.S. military and other countries, there was no large market for it for mass sales. Sure- it is made of stamped metal, but it was priced far lower than the ARs that our military adopted and the stamped metal would have held up just as well as the AR receivers. The weak point as I see it was the folding stock, and if it was adopted over the AR then I'm sure that would have been rectified (something like the Galil or Daewoo K2 solid locking systems.).
Now _ don't intend on this becoming a debate for this is just my opinion, BUT- (and hopefully a situation will NEVER develop), but if I "had to grab one and run", I would not hesitate grabbing my Armalite (which by the way is a different Armalite that the company today since the new company is just a bought name. I believe Eagle Arms bought the name many years ago. The original Armalite company is LONG gone.
I have a Sterling, and while Sterling is not as sought after as some of the other manufacturers, mine has the "happy switch" (legally owned NFA item), and THAT- makes all the difference.
Another thing for the AR180/18, is that it is unique in a world of ARs. I go to a gun show and just zone out on seeing ARs EVERYWHERE, and am bored with them. I love seeing guns that are more unique and different.
