Experience with Nightforce rings: 4 screw or 6 screw?

I'm looking at Nightforce X-treme Duty Ultralite 30 mm rings to mount an NXS 5.5-22 on a Bergara HMR in 6.5.

Any reason to go for the 6 screw pattern over the 4 screw pattern with this optic/rifle/caliber combo?

The 4 screw variety will work fine with that scope. I would also look at the one-piece NF mount. Very solid.

That is a nice rifle, btw. I had some conversations with the Bergara folks when they first introduced barrels. Good product. Nice price point.

I was planning on the 4 screw but I'm often inclined to over build things so couldn't help but consider the 6 screw. I think I'll stick with 4 though here.

I looked hard at the unimounts but ended up with their 20 MOA steel base.

The NXS and a Thunderbeast Ultra 7 have been sitting in my safe for a couple years at least waiting for the right rifle. The HMR came out and I decided that was the one for me. This is my first bolt gun so I'm excited to get it up and running.

    Thanks for your input.

    Should be a nice setup.

My experience has been that anything short action works fine with 4 screws. As you creep up to the very large calibers, or very heavy scopes, the 6 screws can help. Badger, for example, only puts six on one ring, and stays with 4 on the other. Six and six is for a jack hammer.

Nightforce told me their 4 screw rings will hold a 5-25 ATACR on a 50 BMG, and the 6 screw rings were mostly for looks.

So I went with the 6 screw because I liked how they look.
