    Shooting with a wet rifle

If a traditional AR is submerged, how long does it need to be out of the water/drained to prevent damage to the barrel and/or other components?

I know most of you live in the desert or put tape on your ejection port covers, but someone out there knowwssss. I suppose I could figure it out myself but wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to bust out the glass on my Atomic or worse first.
Why do the loudest do the least?

Based solely on YouTube videos, it seems like it only takes a second for the gas tube to drain.

If it was completely submerged, I would pull the charging handle back to uncork the barrel, tip the barrel down and let it drain for a few seconds.

Ha ha, yea! I like the "pond" beach they used and the "competitor" weapon got less drain time then theirs for the same test, no timing evident anywhere so it is suspect all around. Nice edit check for the end. Should have brought some pistols to do the same test with the proprietary "HK magazine loading technique" shown in their infamous periodical ad a few years back.

Side note: What happened to you Euro? Your posts have been kind of "off axis" lately.

The hole at the end of the receiver extension is there for a reason.
If your weapon has been fully submerged, pulling back on the charging handle pushes the water out of the receiver extension by means of the buffer, and opens the gas tube from the bolt carrier. Gravity helps this process.

    I would....
    1. Hold rifle muzzle up
    2. Pull charging handle to the rear
    3. Tilt muzzle down
    4. Release charging handle
