M&P 22 Compact trigger not resetting when hand cycling

I have a new M&P 22 Compact that runs fine during live fire but when hand cycling the slide it usually doesn't cock the hammer so I end up with a dead trigger. Makes it difficult to try dry fire practice. Has anybody else seen this issue?

Hope you know its not good to dry fire a rimfire firearm without a snap cap or empty case in the chamber.
Anyway, have you taken the slide off the frame and tried cocking the hammer by hand to see if there is anything obvious going on to prevent the sear from catching the hammer when the hammer is pushed back?
Since you say the pistol is new, a call for a prepaid mailer to S&W is always a good option.

Do you have an empty magazine inserted in the gun? If not...you will have a dead trigger due to the magazine safety.
