This is very true. I was just talking about the "in the moment" situation. Shooting a rifle indoor will definitely hurt your hearing. I have hearing issues, but truthfully not as bad as I would expect. But I do have a newish eardrum in my right ear..... which leads me to my next point:

I lost me eardrum doing that during breaching training when I had an ear infection. The over-pressure of 22 feet of det cord at about 15 feet down a hallway, combined with fluid behind the eardrum, will launch about 95 percent of said eardrum into the adjacent wall.
Id bet shooting rifles is a bit easier on the body though. HAHAHA
