Any of you that have been to Somalia (I’m looking for info on weapons)

First of all I wanna thank you for your service and taking time to respond. Also thanks to any others that have been in the area or have info about it.

I’m seeking information and or pictures about the weapons used primarily by Somali Pirates. And also info about the origin of them. Like most AKs encountered were Chinese, etc....

My reason for seeking the info is that I’m rebuilding an AK parts kit that I have and I’m trying to make it resemble something from that region for my collection. I’ll be adding Gear and accessories over time as well. Thanks again for your time.

What an awesome basis for a question.

I haven't been to Somalia, nor known any ex modern day Swashbucklers.

But, they do not seem to like stocks, at all. Here's some pictures of captured weapons:

This might not help a whole lot. But, it looks like lacking stock and having a... Salt-Water... Patina? Are very common symptoms of a "pirated AK". Best of luck in your endeavor.

Thanks a lot Herumew! I’ve got a Romanian M65 underfolder kit on the way (I asked the people at AoA for their nastiest, most beatup kit) that I was going to thoroughly clean, not oil, and put it in the garage in a box for a couple years to achieve the look.

Chinese red side folder makes me very, very sad. It's like seeing dogs that didn't get adopted that you would have been happy to take care of it they would have let you.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

Looks like the FEG underolder isn't in to bad of shape. Though it appears to have a Romanian pistol grip and handguards on it. Notice the little ventilated handguard retainer carry over of the AKM63 or AMD65 series. I have an early pre-ban with the same ventilated retainer. I bet all those rifles still run. Appears they cut the rear trunnion tangs on that Type 1 laying in the boat- idiots.

I was thinking it was a Howa Type 89 but the handguards don't look right.
