Got the revolver bug after 40 years of semi shooting and reloading

Got a Smith 686 just on a whim. Loading for and shooting this thing is fun! I can load down to .38 target velocity or load her up good and proper.

Seriously considering a Ruger Redhawk in .44 mag with 7.5 inch barrel. I will be shooting few full house .44 loads, but lots of what I'd call 44 spl +P or +P+ handloads.

Better late than never.

I stuck with 357 Magnum until 18 months ago. I started with a 44 Magnum, and worked my way up to the 500 Magnum.

686 is so much fun, I'm now shopping for a Redhawk 7.5 inch in .44 mag. Nothing at the recent gun show but I'll find one.

Yo are preaching to the Choir, i have got four .44 revolvers. i hunt bears with them and range practice too.

Don't discount the +P .45 Colt.
Recoil's not as "abrupt" as a hot .44 mag., but in the same league as far as energy.
A 300 gr. cast at 1100/1200 FPS is a penetration monster.

My experience hunting large (300 lb.+) hogs is, that with proper shot placement (as with all handgun rds.), they perform as well as a 180 gr. .30/06 at realistic handgun range.

I picked up a Smith & Wesson 629 Classic manufactured in the mid-90s. The CNC machined, pre lock Smiths are incredible. If you shop around you can find one for under a grand

After dismissing anything but double actions for decades I'm having a lot of fun and envying a Blackhawk that I got my son in 41 mag.

I "get" the Blackhawk thing now.

Deadly accurate, crisp trigger, can be loaded very hot but also has easy plinking loads. I'd like one just like it.

A friend brought a very nice Blackhawk in 357 for $175! Exceptional deal from someone who had lost interest, but they are out there.

I went up the canyon where I normally practice and ran into a good friend who shoots cowboy action. He had his whole set-up there with a stage of steel targets set up. I ended up spending about an hour shooting the breeze and his single action revolvers and winchester lever guns. I'll admit it was the funnest shooting session I've had in years. I own a j frame and a DAO 38 special smith (I think a model 64) that I got as a police trade in about a year ago but rarely shoot them. Shooting revolvers is quite the good time I think.
