My system is to shoot a groups of 10 consecutive shots, and measure the average to center distances, not the extreme spreads ("group size"). I scan my targets into an electronic format, and use software to calculate the average to center distance.
I think anything less than 10 shots has questionable value. I find that I get repeatable (reliable) results with the average to center measurements.
